O (Omicron)

Projection mapping, by AntiVJ, on the huge dome of the Hala Stulecia in Poland:

Built between 1911-13 by German architect Max Berg, Hala Stulecia was the largest reinforced concrete structure in the world. With a diameter of 65m it was home to the largest dome built since the Pantheon in Rome eighteen centuries earlier.

AntiVJ explain:

"A deliberately minimalist visual aesthetic allowed [us] to highlight the very architecture of Hala Stulecia’s dome and re-affirm its place at the core of the piece. Minimalism also appeared to be the most appropriate means of conveying this idea of future at different periods of time (from 20s/30s anticipation film to more contemporary productions ). But the use of these references was not simply formal: the vision of futuristic totalitarian societies seemed to echo back real moments in the history of the building, warning us against the dangers of an idealized vision of the future.

Inspiration for the music composed by Thomas for this project was found in both orchestral work, echoing the colossal size of the architecture, and electronic textures, evoking the action of time. The score also tried and recreate a sense of evolution of the materials used for the dome structure, and their sonic aging.

Monegros

Dryland Farming #9, Monegros County, Aragon, Spain, 2010 by Edward Burtynsky

Series, by Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky, examining the impact of long-term dryland farming in Monegros, Spain.

Dryland Farming #14, Monegros County, Aragon, Spain, 2010 by Edward Burtynsky

"In 2010 Burtynsky photographed farm areas in Spain including Monegros, a hilly, semi-desert area with extreme climatic conditions. He was drawn to Monegros by the complex and organic expansion of the farming areas that were created by successive divisions of land through family farming. Burtynsky was fascinated by the visual formations and level of abstraction of Monegros as seen from above and the resulting photographs are his most abstract and painterly work to date. The writhing lines and bold patches of colour and texture suggest microscopic organisms as well as the cosmic landscape. The rhythmic patterns and semi-figurative shapes resemble paintings by Kandinsky, Picasso, Miró and Dubuffet as well as primitive art and cave paintings."

Assembled Compositions

Collages by NARWHAL artist Jacob Whibley:

mitochondria by Jacob Whibley

"Exploring the theme of interstitial spaces, Jacob Whibley's collages show geometric and organic forms in a suspended moment of transition. Drawing inspiration from modernist design and unfulfilled histories, Whibley assembles each collage through a process of successive movements and emphasizes the contrast between found and intentionally crafted elements. These tactile moments allude to structural and topographic forms as they shift and reconfigure towards newer possibilities."

Wooden Blanket

More 'wooden' textiles from Elisa Strozyk... this time a blanket:

Wooden Textile Blanket by Elisa Strozyk

The processes to transform wood into a flexible wooden surface is its deconstruction into pieces, which are then attached to a textile base. Depending on the geometry and size of the tiles each design shows a different behavior regarding flexibility and mobility. There are various possible applications, for example as floorings, curtains, drapes, plaids, upholstery or parts of furniture.

Prometheus - Space Travel Feature

Yet another Prometheus feature, this time featuring the ship itself:

Ecologies of the Sole

Like a Michael Cina painting...

Ecologies of the Sole from This Is Microgeography

"Ecologies of the Sole: These unconventional and unique maps trace microgeographical journeys. They do not report distances, or reflect the visible layout of our cities or towns, but emerge from the accumulated microflora that we unintentionally gather on our travels. In these examples, walkers were given a pair of sterile shoes, and after their own personal journeys, the microflora that had accumulated on the sole of these shoes developed by imprinting them on bacteriological growth media."
